Rock Climbing Venues

Looking for a rock climbing school in the New York City, South Jersey, New Jersey or Eastern Pennsylvania area? Maybe you’re an indoor rock gym enthusiast and would love to make the transition to outdoor climbing, or perhaps experience the thrill of climbing a multi-pitch rock. The Riverview Outdoor Adventure Climbing School is setup to provide you with these life changing experiences. Our rock climbing clinics are held at Allamuchy Mountain State Park in New Jersey. We guide the rocky and icy cliffs of the Delaware Water Gap and at the Narrows. Our clinics are taught by nationally certified AMGA instructors. The Riverview Outdoor Adventure Climbing School is focused on providing only a high-quality climbing experience. When your safety is a stake, only qualified, experienced, and certified guides can insure your safety. Both the National Park Service and the State of New Jersey have issued us permits, allowing us to legitimately guide and instruct at the above climbing venues.

  • Your guide will work with you to customize the lesson to acquire the skills you desire .
  • Our school has women’s and children’s harnesses, shoes, and helmets.
  • Our Guides are certified, professional, insured and FUN.
  • There is no charge for rock climbing gear rentals (harnesses, shoes, and helmets).

Introduction to Outdoor Rock Climbing

Group Clinic (4 to 12 students) - $110.00 / student

Duration: 8:30 am - 4:30 pm

You will learn the basics of outdoor rock climbing from nationally certified and insured professional instructors in an outdoor group setting. Climbing equipment is included in the cost of this course. Your instructor will discuss the different types of climbing venues and introduce you to the Yosemite Decimal System (route rating system for technical rock climbing).  The student can and may likely learn team building skills, climbing fundamentals, how to tie climbing knots, how to use climbing equipment, belaying, rappelling, body position, movement on and over rocks, and more.  If you climb in an indoor rock gym, this course will help you make the transition to outdoor climbing.

Women on the Rocks

Group Clinic (4 to 12 students) - $139.00 / student

Duration: 8:30 am - 4:30 pm

Riverview was the first in the Tri-State in 2006 to start this all women’s climbing clinic when the ‘Riverview Counseling Center’ began offering rock climbing as a way to empower women and improve their self esteem. Empowerment, trust, commitment, communications, and problem solving are the themes of this climbing clinic. The female climber will hone her skills in knot tying, belaying, climbing movement, body position, safe tope rope systems, and she will challenge herself. Climbing equipment is included in the price of this clinic (i.e., women’s harness, women’s climbing shoes, and women’s climbing helmets).

Take Your Child Rock Climbing

One Price for the Entire Family - $125.00 / family

Mornings: 9:00 am - 12:00 noon

Afternoon: 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

This offer is a half day outing climbing outside on a real rock cliff. Limited to Parents/Guardians and their Children. We provide the climbing equipment for you and your children.

Anchor Building & Top Rope Systems

Group Clinic (4 to 8 students) - $174.00 / student

Duration: 8:30 am - 4:30 pm

This comprehensive one day course will teach the student to construct safe top rope anchors on real cliffs in the outdoors using natural and artificial protection. Techniques using static ropes, slings, cordelettes, and webbing are covered in addition to anchor strength evaluation. Each students will have multiple opportunities to construct anchors. Instructor and the group will critique each scenario. Constructing anchors using your own equipment is recommended, but not required for enrollment.

Note:  The pre-requisite for Day 2 is that you must have already enrolled in Day 1 or taken Day 1 previously in the past. 

Climb 1/2 Day with a Guide

1/2 Day with a Guide - $189.00 / person

Mornings: 8:30 am - 12:30 noon

Afternoon: 12:30 pm - 4:30 pm

You and your guide will select a climbing area and discuss your objectives for the day. Perhaps you only want to try climbing or you need a belayer for some special project you have in mind. Hire a certified Riverview guide for a one-half day. There is no charge for climbing gear rentals (harnesses, shoes, and helmets).

Semi Private Lesson Full Day

Full Day - $209.00/student

Duration: 8:30 am - 4:30 pm

Semi Private lessons are one on one with the climbing guide; you and a friend, or you and two friends.  An extrordinary experience. The student will learn climbing skills thru instructional discussions and real life hands climbing scenarios. Maybe you are interested in making the transition to outdoor climbing. Perhaps you want to learn how to build a safe top rope anchor or lead climbing. Whether you are new to climbing and want to learn the fundamentals (i.e., climbing knots, care and use of climbing equipment, how to safely belay and rappel, top rope systems, body position, movement on rocks, etc.) or you have been climbing for some time and are looking to learn new skills or refresh your current knowledgebase.

Note:  Select this offering if you want a semi-private guided multi-pitch rock or ice climb.

Private Lesson Full Day

Full Day - $349.00

Duration: 8:30 am - 4:30 pm

Private lessons are one on one with the climbing guide. An extraordinary experience. The student will learn climbing skills thru instructional discussions and real life hands climbing scenarios. Maybe you are interested in making the transition to outdoor climbing. Perhaps you want to learn how to build a safe top rope anchor or lead climbing. Whether you are new to climbing and want to learn the fundamentals (i.e., climbing knots, care and use of climbing equipment, how to safely belay and rappel, top rope systems, body position, movement on rocks, etc.) or you have been climbing for some time and are looking to learn new skills or refresh your current knowledge base. Your Riverview Outdoor Adventure guides can help you acquired these skills.

Climbing Merit Badge for Boy Scouts

Climbing Merit Badge (two days) - $70.00/scout

Duration: 8:30 am - 4:30 pm

This offering is for scouts  interested in earning the complete merit badge in a weekend of outdoor climbing at Allamuchy Mountain State Park.  Scouts are expected to come prepared with merit badge cards, work sheets, and have some first-aid knowledge.

Climbing Merit Badge (one day) - $45.00/scout

Duration: 8:30 am - 4:30 pm

This offering is designed just for scouts who only want to have a climbing experience. In addition, this venue is perfect for the scout who has earned a partial merit badge and would like to complete the badge. Merit Badge counselors are trained in youth protection, practice two deep leadership, hold Wilderness First Aid certificates, and are BSA trained climbing instructors.   All the necessary climbing equipment is provided by the climbing school.

Girl Scouts That Rock

$45.00 / scout

Duration: 8:30 am - 4:30 pm

Enjoy the day challenging yourself on the rock with the Riverview Outdoor Adventure Climbing School and their guides. The guides setup the safety ropes and outfit each climber with the proper safety equipment which is provided by the climbing school.

Health Rocks!

Rock climbing is one way to engage youth and adults to implement a community strategies that promotes healthy lifestyle choices. Help youth build life skills that lead to healthy lifestyle choices.

The 4-H youth will challenging themselves on the rock under the supervision of Riverview Outdoor Adventure Climbing School’s experienced climbing guides.  The guides will setup the safety ropes and outfit each climber with the proper safety equipment.  The Riverview Outdoor Adventure Climbing School provides all the necessary equipment for the day.
