Rock and Ice Climbing
We teach critical thinking as opposed to instructors who teach concepts without a definitive thought process. For example in anchor building, critical thinking will determine how many pieces of artificial protection needs to be placed; opposed to always building an anchor with three pieces because that’s how your friend was taught to build an anchor. We trademarked the PLUS (TM) method of belaying. First time beginners leave our Intro to Outdoor Rock Climbing clinic and pass their belay test upon their next visit to their indoor rock gym. Our instructors experience is a culmination of extensive training from nationally recognized experts in rock, ice, and mountain guiding.
Guide Tricks for Climbers Series
Removing the Mystery. Ever wonder about those tricks guides use?
Whether you’re an alpinist or a rock climber you can benefit from these same techniques. Our goal is to remove some of the mystery surrounding the techniques that guides use everyday. We offer two clinics; Moving Faster and Avoiding the Touch. Clinics are both hands-on and comprehensive. The duration of these clinics are a full two days each and they are currently being offered in Eldorado Canyon State Park in Colorado. Alan L. Jolley is the instructor for both clinics.
There are a lot of outdoor companies who claim to offer team building venues. Our founder, Barry Rusnock, has been employed by Fortune 500 companies such as IBM Global Services, MTV Networks, and CBS and has been a consultant to AT&T, Lucent Technologies, and Aeropostale. Together with his corporate experience and his technical outdoor training, the Riverview Outdoor Adventure Climbing School is uniquely qualified to bring your company a meaningful team building event.
Our guided hikes are both walks in the woods along an easy going paths in addition to those challenging adventurous one with bragging rights. These hikes are adventurous and they are intended to challenge you. The degree of difficulty is moderate to difficult but we are with you to help and assist you throughout the duration of the hike. A good sturdy boot or approach shoe is recommended. Most hikes are day trips, however, we do offer some extended overnight trips for the more adventurous individual. Lemmon Squeeze and Giants Workshop hikes are seasonal and sometimes are closed during the winter months. We can provide a list of necessary gear and recommended clothing upon request.
Community Outreach Programs
Our founder Barry Rusnock is an Eagle Scout. Many famous climbers began their climbing careers while in scouting on their path to earning the eagle scout rank. Two of our community giveback programs is the “Climb with an Eagle” award and the “Where Eagles Dare” mentorship program. If you son or someone you know has recently earned the rank of Eagle Scout, these are two programs that your scout can join and participate free of charge. Our programs use climbing to focus broadly on strengthening, unifying and building the economic, cultural, educational and social services of a community, in this case scouting, by improving the quality of life for all in the outdoors.
